The first ISEP building materials laboratory (BML), was situated on the ground floor of the building J was shared by the departments of Civil and Geotechnical Engineering having only one set of packed material acquired by some teachers with the intention of setting up a small laboratory.

In the year of 1976,  when the BML has his first major boost during the coming of Mr. Joaquim Ferreira, Portuguese- Angolan , former head of the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering of Luanda.

Due to its enormous experience in land use and with the support of the Engineers at the time directors of small and precarious BML is selected for this lab technician.

In 1980, due to its promotion, the BML has already performed a wide range of tests. Having a large bet on the provision of services abroad by those responsible thus created a catalogue where you specify all kinds of tests in the BML and the corresponding price list. However, this year is that the lab begins to support classes.

Were two decades "Golden", of constant activity, due not only to the quality of services provided, but also due to the lack of competition, because mostly the few existing laboratories were so ill-prepared. The provision of services has been improved with the purchase of equipment for taking tests this current construction building materials laboratory ISEP between 1994 and 1996.

Sharing the laboratory between the two departments has always been notorious, being always managed by the two departments. The directors have been changing over the years, and in 2012 the lab came to be commanded by engineer Angelo Jacob (civil Department) until now. Despite the ups and downs of the BML, the spirit found here is to always work for a successful future.
